Christian Friends of Israel in Jerusalem

As my heart for Israel and His promised people, the Jews, is set, I have also joined with  the 41-year old organization in Jerusalem, Christian Friends of Israel.

Starting back in 1992 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, I was a founding board member on the CFI-USA representative office with Hannele Pardain, now in Charlotte, North Carolina. I served for 14 years. Now my wonderful wife Laurie has been on the board since 2021.

Together, Laurie and I volunteered to  serve  in Jerusalem with CFI for three months, Oct. 16, 2025 through Jan.11, 2026. You can read of that wonderful experience in my 40th book published a month later, BACK TO JERUSALEM, in February 2026. 

The many chapters in the book also come with over 150 photos. ( I have found that the men will look at the photos while the women actually read my books! Speaking on a general basis, of course.)

And now, after having had four cancelled flights to Israel in  the spring of 2026 due to ongoing conflicts continually against Israel,, my good friend David Lauka and I have returned to the Land to once again serve six weeks with CFI.

Now led by the International Director Tristan Hall, with his wife Galya (four children Eliora, Moriah, Ariella, and son  Hosea), CFI was found in 1985 by Ray and Sharon Sanders. 

Ray passed on two days before the horrible onslaught against Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. Sharon continues serving  with her foundational strength,  vigor and encouragement,  with speaking engagements, regular  teaching through  books and magazine articles, and overall care for the multiple of volunteers and leadership the Lord has brought to continue the love for His people.

And so now with my time here, I will share what the Lord gives us to do alongside them to  bring comfort to His people.

“Comfort, comfort My people,” says your God. With gentle words, tender and kind,
assure  Jerusalem, this chosen city from long ago…” Isaiah 40:1 NASB

Time To Return by Steve Martin

Aug. 27, 2026 Greetings once again from Charlotte, North Carolina. I first want to thank Moses Julius, Light TV in Pakistan, for publishing my book BACK TO JERUSALEM in the Muslim country. He sent me three copies. (Photo above.) On September 15, David Lauka and I begin our return trip to Jerusalem, Israel. We will have six weeks with Christian Friends of Israel, bringing comfort to the nation as the Lord gives us the ongoing opportunity.  If you would also like to bless the people there in this time of their need, all contributions are appreciated. As time quickly speeds on, in the years ahead, I want to focus more on and in Israel, especially as the nations continue to turn away, including the USA. We must stand strong alongside our Jewish friends. I will continue sending these messages from Jerusalem on this 31st trip for me, along with more updates posted on our website, LOVE FOR HIS PEOPLE.  And of course I will be uploading new WALK WITH ME videos as I have always done previously. Yeah Lord! Our younger generations especially need to know and walk in the truth. It is our job to lead them. In line with this, my newest book, BACK TO BASICS, was published this week. (See below.) A closed door? Wait for the open one.

I was actually surprised at my deep reaction when the finality of it hit me.

My 14 years with an uptown Charlotte company, where I started as a “temp” in 2012, then became full time, and then repeated (4 in fact) returns to cover as they tried finding good help…was over.

When my wonderful wife Laurie and I spent three months as volunteers with Christian Friends of Israel in Jerusalem Oct. 16, 2015 - Jan. 12, 2026, I had told Charlotte Center City Partners that this was it with them. I cleaned my desk and left.

But to my surprise they called me back two weeks after my return home to Charlotte, and said they needed my help. In fact, the new CFO had saved and put back my photos on my former desk walls. Surprised indeed!

But all good things come to an end, so we are told, and the door has finally closed. They seem to have finally found good help.

Coupled with the closing this month of another place I had done accounting with for five years as a contractor, doors certainly have closed.

But as my good friend Mordecai had prophesied to me a month ago in home group, “Doors will be closing. But new ones will be opening.” (I call him the “Open Door” prophet.)

When, not if, you experience your closing of doors, know that our Faithful Lord has your back.

And be faithful where you are at until then. He wants to promote you.

“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter the joy of your master.’ Matthew 25:31, NASB
