“Matchmaker” by Steve Martin

Matchmaker

We all remember the movie “”Fiddler on the Roof”. Especially the one with Chaim Topol as Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman in early 20th-century Russia. I love his character!

Remember the matchmaker, the old lady who brought a young man and a young woman together? And the song the daughters sang, as their hearts longed for a good husband? (Full lyrics below.)

I love it when I see the good Lord connecting people for His purposes and plans. And when He brings together a man and a woman, as He fully intends in His awesome family plans. It is so special and the families rejoice as they should in celebration.

Marriage between a man and a woman should not be a decisive thing. Nor should we allow the enemy of the Lord and His people to make it so. Just basic “sight and science” show His creative design and great achievement to bring more on earth for His eternal family.

That is what a father, and the Father, has always wanted. And trust me, HE will always get what He wants. I can rest in that.

For those longing for a good husband, or a good wife, seek the Father who already knows who it is. And then be patient as He brings you together in love and grace.

Matchmaker! Make them a match! And we will give thanks to You again in joy and love!

Ahava and shalom,

Steve Martin

Matchmaker, Matchmaker lyrics

Tzeitel you're the oldest
Yente has to arrange a match for you before she can make one for me
Oh Yente, Yente
Well, somebody has to arrange the matches
Young people can't decide these things themselves
She might bring someone wonderful
Someone interesting
And well off
And important
Matchmaker, Matchmaker
Make me a match
Find me a find
Catch me a catch
Matchmaker, Matchmaker
Look through your book
And make me a perfect match
Matchmaker, Matchmaker
I'll bring the veil
You bring the groom
Slender and pale
Bring me a ring for I'm longing to be
The envy of all I see
For Papa
Make him a scholar
For mama
Make him rich as a king
For me, well,
I wouldn't holler
If he were as handsome as anything
Matchmaker, Matchmaker
Make me a match
Find me a find
Catch me a catch
Night after night in the dark I'm alone
So find me match
Of my own
Since when are you in a match, Chava?
I thought you had your eye on your books

And you have your eye on the Rabbi's son
Well, why not?
We have only one Rabbi and he has only one son
Why shouldn't I want the best?
Because you're a girl from a poor family
So whatever Yenta brings, you'll take, right?
Of course right
Hodel, oh Hodel
Have I made a match for you
He's handsome, he's young
Alright, he's 62
But he's a nice man, a good catch, true?
True
I promise you'll be happy
And even if you're not
There's more to life than that
Don't ask me what
Chava, I found him
Won't you be a lucky bride
He's handsome, he's tall
That is from side to side
But he's a nice man, a good catch, right?
Right
You heard he has a temper
He'll beat you every night
But only when he's sober
So you'll alright
Did you think you'd get a prince?
Well I do the best I can
With no dowry, no money, no family background
Be glad you got a man

Matchmaker, Matchmaker
You know that I'm
Still very young
Please, take your time
Up to this minute
I misunderstood
That I could get stuck for good

Dear Yenta
See that he's gentle
Remember
You were also a bride
It's not that
I'm sentimental

It's just that I'm terrified
Matchmaker, Matchmaker
Plan me no plans
I'm in no rush
Maybe I've learned
Playing with matches
A girl can get burned
So
Bring me no ring
Groom me no groom
Find me no find
Catch me no catch
Unless he's a matchless match

“You Would Think” by Steve Martin

You Would Think

Now that the USA is out of the FIFA World Cup 2026, one wonders why, with such a large population of 349 million people, we don’t dominant every single athletic event there is worldwide.

Getting beat by a country with 11.9 million (i.e. Belgium) is a bit embarrassing. But not being a futbol fan to begin with (American college football is my game), there is a spiritual lesson in this. You may know where I am going already.

“But now God has arranged the parts, each one of them in the body, just as He desired. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20 But now there are many parts, but one body.

21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; or again, the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”

22 On the contrary, it is much truer that the parts of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary; 23 and those parts of the body which we consider less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor, and our less presentable parts become much more presentable…” 1 Corinthians 12:18-23 NASB

We are all not the same when it comes to certain features. How boring would that be? Neither do we have the same skills, abilities, or personalities.

The Lord created each of us for His purpose, and as we acknowledge that and appreciate what “each brings to the table” we will see the hand of the Creator even more so with open eyes.

Personally, I don’t mind seeing the USA getting beat in some things.

Except when it comes to supporting Israel. And then I get real upset at those trying to destroy the Land that He has given to my friends the Jews.

Now they are ones who bring a big portion to the table, way beyond their size, having incredible creativity that is truly a “light to the nations” as they have been called to be.

athe Lord, I have called You in righteousness, I will also hold You by the hand and watch over You, And I will appoint You aa covenant to the people, as a light to the nations…” Isaiah 42:6 NASB

Appreciate those the Lord gives you. The ones next door and those across the borders.

Ahava and shalom,

Steve Martin

Abundant What? Message by Steve Martin

Abundant What?

It amazes me of the many types of people there are in the world, and just alone in our nation of the USA. As I traveled to Texas in June 2026; went to several America 250 July 4 events later; and hear how my Taiwanese neighbor Jeffrey (age 33) across the street relates to his Vietnamese ER nurse girlfriend Knu, I’ve noticed especially that because we are of His creation, we are different. And yet the same.

You can color your hair with many dyes; choose the clothes (or not) to wear; listen to so many genre of music that the airplane doesn’t even have “Christian”… and yet we are all the same.

We want to be loved. We want to be noticed (recognized) and not just another number in someone’s Contact List.

We simply want to live and let live. (A music title sometime back? Or a movie? James Bond maybe?)

But that really isn’t so.

We weren’t created to “just live.” We were each created to live the life our good Lord, Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach, gave us to live.

There was a time I really didn’t believe the verse written in John 10:10, The Message version:

“Jesus told this simple story, but they had no idea what he was talking about. So he tried again.

“I’ll be explicit, then. I am the Gate for the sheep. All those others are up to no good—sheep rustlers, every one of them. But the sheep didn’t listen to them. I am the Gate.

Anyone who goes through me will be cared for—will freely go in and out, and find pasture. A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy.

I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.”

I believed the first part. But not the second. As the NASB had it, which I had memorized, “abundant life” wasn’t so abundant. Just too many frustrations and difficulties it seemed. Daily.

But now?

With the path to walk on, shown in His Word, I have found that abundant life. Joy, peace, confidence, assurance, hope, faith, love.

Seek the Lord in everything you do. Know of His love and stick close to Him. He awaits us with open arms, to know of His abundant life He has for each of us.

Ahava and shalom,

Steve Martin

Home from Texas, Steve Martin

Home From Texas

June 30, 2026

Greetings once again. I am back home from my month-long Texas trip with Christian Friends of Israel. The plane landed in Charlotte at 11:30 pm Saturday the 27th and I was in bed at 1:07 am. Yeah Lord!

And…in time for my amazing wife’s birthday on Sunday the 28th. (She poked me in bed when I quietly got in.)

As you may have known in my “pre-trip” (no reference to a so-called rapture) messages, I was excited about going but apprehensive about the hours and miles of driving once in the BIG state of Texas.

Well, for the record, we did travel over 3,500 miles in 27 days. I accomplished over 3K of those behind the 15 passenger van, with the last two benches taken out for the six bags of 50-pound each luggage, plus eight boxes of books and magazines. (I will let you estimate the driven hours. Ok, they must have passed the 55 hour mark, using my accounting skills.)

It was a “Father-led, Lord Jesus provided, and Holy Spirit directed ministry trip. It won’t be the last.

I now know where Dallas, Fort Worth, Princeton, McKinney, Allen, Abilene, Odessa, Midland, Pecos, Junction, Del Rio, Brackenville, San Antonio, Houston, Kingwood, and at least seven Buc-ees (ask Laurie what those are!) towns/cities in the Lone Star state reside. And the 22 square mile cattle ranch just north of the Rio Grande. Thank you Lashawn for your joyful hospitality and having the night meeting in the sheep barn!

Did you realize Israel is also a lone star state/nation? Just sayin’.

And I did bring back a pair of black, full size cowboy boots, given to me as a gift (found in a host’s closet, so already broken in. And the right size!)

Sharon Sanders, co-founder of CFI in Jerusalem, did a marvelous job of teaching the importance of Israel, the Jewishness of Jesus (Yeshua), and why CFI has existed for 40 years in Jerusalem, and will continue to, as we expand to bless and comfort His Chosen people.

As I recorded all her messages, some worship times, plus just “fun” travel visits on the few days off, you can see some (hopefully all) on this YouTube channel. I have four playlists created during the trip.

I will have more to share as the coming days permit. Thank you for your prayers, seeing my videos and photos (Facebook, Signal, X, and four websites) along the way.

Ahava and Shalom,

Steve Martin
